Tesla's involvement in New Caledonia Nickel suggests they want to play a bigger role in the supply chain - from ore to battery. Tesla is not getting into mining at Goro, nor will it be processing into the battery material. They are joining as a Partner to influence a more environmental process in NC. Hence why this deal included going 100% carbon neutral by 2040 satisfying both the Government/Local community and Tesla.
BUT by shipping excess Limonite ore to Townville - TESLA can get Zero waste, green and potentially carbon neutral Class 1 Nickel by 2023!! They just need to move fast and lock in 16kt of QPM capacity.
