All the best labs in the world took 15 years to sequence the human genome at a cost of almost $3 billion dollars.
Ten years ago it would cost $10M to sequence a single genome today our lab can do it by itself for $1000 and the quality has also improved exponentially.
What you have zero knowledge of is the exponential increase in the efficiency etc of a technology once there is a committed effort to working on it.
