I am with you on this one Mcdunk. Australia is the only country in the world that has 600hp engines to pull B Double combinations. We do this 24hr's a day, 7 days a week.
Think about it, the Australian trucking fleet would have to double just to do the current work load. Yes, they save money on fuel but spend more on tyres, and double staff and leasing expense.
Once the truck reaches its destination, it has to be charged instead of turned around for a returned trip. I know, the trucking company can have spare battery to slide in, slide out at the end of the trip. MORE EXPENSE with the cost of stocking spare batterys and the time to do this every trip. That is if the trip was straight forward, no car accidents stopping you, no floods or weather related things stopping you and no stupid cows or kangaroos or bird strikes.
Is Australia ready to pay more than double for their goods and services whilst having more than double the amount of semi trailers on the road? I don't think so.
