Agreed - it's not really about the horsepower.. Torque is key to big trucks. Hp is essentially a side effect! ....and electric motors are the king of torque! From any speed! Imo it's not too big a stretch to imagine EV trucks here in OZ. I'm sure those boffins working on the likes of the Tesla semi will find a suitable design for us! And when they become automated, the "road trains" can simply just be multiple trucks "virtually" linked in a chain config. No marginal driver cost! It will happen!
