It's hard to believe anything Musk says considering he's not meant to be saying anything publicly unless it's approved from the SEC or goes through Tesla CEO due to blantent lies.

On the subject of pick up truck came ou. t with a comment late last year that it will be ready this year. The comment was made after a competitor of Tesla released a pick up truck at a motor show and caught everybody by surprise. As it stands his comments were not correct.

Tesla have enough issues trying to get their cars out on schedule and keeping investors money. I wouldn't bank on to many of Musk comments, in fact if recent history is anything to go by I'd short Tesla stock after his comments.
