Stockrocker - yes it works well using 2G. I set my mobile networks to 2G only and I could make calls with good call quality.
I also tried to call a Cambodian number and it didn't work - but don't think it is anything to do with 2G. However it worked when I tried calling a Vietnamese number (CBA Vietnam +84 4 3824 3213).
