From my experience share consolidation is a kiss of death. It almost always ends in wealth destruction for existing holders and a boon to new investors. Should be resisted with every breath left.
Apart from the tool of allowing a lot more distance to fall, there are good psychological reasons why you want a low SP and high volume.
1. Liquidity
2. A feeling you have a big stake
3. We the SP runs, it still feels "cheap". Even at 20 cents it still feels like a lot of room to go.
I am 100% against consolidation. Look at BHP and FMG register, lots of shares. No problem.
