I have seen fires in sandalwood plantations up there. Once the canopy closes over and but while they still have a fair bit of understory from the 2nd generation hosts, it can happen. But it's tough to get going. It doesn't rip through plantations like pine/gum. Tends to just burn around the edge a bit, easier for fire crews to jump on it quickly. To be honest the dry season/winter combo is not really that helpful. It's still averaging 30-35 degrees in the Ord River in Jun-Aug. But it is better than there 39-40 degrees in Dec-Jan. The NT will be slightly cooler, as will the NQ sites. The majority is still in the Ord. But still, not a massive issue.
