Perth-based burns specialist and Australian of the Year Fiona Wood is Australia’s most trusted person in a poll which asked recipients to rank 100 promiment Australians according to trust.
Other individuals who rated highly in the Reader’s Digest annual trust survey included Olivia Newton-John (at two), Princess Mary of Denmark (3), TV vet Dr Harry Cooper (4) and Ian Kiernan, the founder of Clean Up Australia (5).
Rev Tim Costello, the chief executive of World Vison, came in 30 while the Governor-General, Michael Jeffrey came in at 65 and the Prime Minister, John Howard, at 85. Immigration minister Amanda Vanstone was ranked lowest.
Slightly more than 1,500 “statistically representative” adult Australians were polled for survey during late February and early March.
The survey also found that ambulance officers are Australia’s most trusted professionals followed by firefighters, mothers and nurses.
Ministers and priests ranked at 16 while real estate agents ranked at 28, care salesman at 29 and politicians at 30.
Cadbury was ranked as the most trusted brand followed by Panadol and Colgate (equal second), Sony (4), Nokia (5) and Kelloggs (6)."
