I was actually in Bangkok for the coup. Did not realise anything had happened till the next day. Most peaceful coup in history, not a single shot fired.

The elections in Thailand are basically an internal issue. It now appears instead of the generals/admirals getting the cash, it will be a civilian business based party receiving the largesse.

The electoral system in Thailand is best described as unusual to people used to a western style democracy. For example there are numerous serving military officers who are also serving members of the governing body.

The biggest destabilising force in Thai politics is the muslim insurgency in the south. Luckily this is confined to the area around the Malaysian border and as such is of minimal influence to the operations for CVN north of Bangkok.

Basically there will be business as usual next, and the following weeks.

I will be heading back to Thailand on 8th of Jan and do not anticipate any changes. If I note anything strange I will advise immediately after offloading my shares.
