    Domain, I do not know how you measure that US generosity but according to figures published by the Economist some time ago the official giving of the US falls way below other nations on a per capita basis. To match the most generous nations in Scandinavia they would have to almost double their giving. In the data published, if I remember correctly, the Japs, with about 120 mill people, gave away about $US12 Bill, and the US, with about 285 mill people, gave away $US16 Bill.

    I do not know about private giving. Ignoring the private giving component (which I would expect to match public giving) the Yanks are not at all that generous.
