The only other long shot theory i had was that LNG were a little too chummy with WCL and pitched a conditional offer to help WCL get the sp up. No reason why they would do this, other than stuff like this happens 'occasionally' on the asx.
Today's announcement from WCL blew that theory away as I think the level they set it at was designed to create a significant financial incentive and force LNG's hand. 100 million shares at 65 cents is obviously $40 million more (taking out the cash..)
Assuming LNG were always considering an offer of 75c ..well they can now think in terms of 85c and still be better off.
Would love to know what sort of phone calls are going on right now b/w Madam Wang and the HQ in China.
To some extent I guess it also swings on how things sit with Mitsui and MPO re the mungi assets
