well, from memory, LNG did try obtaining gas supply from others.

first they tried Arrow - that went no where because Arrow was of course t/o by SHell

then they tried BOW - but BOW withdrew and went on its own seet way, only to be t/o by Arrow.

then LNG bought its stake in MEL, but MEL obviously may not be in a position to supply the gas in the timeframe required by LNG and its Chinese partners.

all thru this period one can be sure LNG has looked at obtaining supply from the majors, but I guess pricing, timing and actual gas supply issues precluded any deal being consumated.

So from my observations, its not so much of "surely LNG can do a better deal than with WCL..?", its more of the issue that no-one wants to do a deal with LNG Ltd!

and almost certainly, thats why LNG fell into the arms of the cashed-up Chinese partners.

WCL has many options for its gas, both domestic and export.

and now, with the Rights Issue, it will have enough cash to progress the development of Meridian to a stage where it will have actual production capable of supplying an LNG plant or portion there-of.

its up to you s/h to determine whether the predicament of LNG not having the gas supply is a result of bad luck or bad management.

at least if LNG can get the supply from WCL it will be in a position to construct an LNG train, even a small train, to prove that its product is economically and operationally viable, and get to market before the big boys.

Its only when LNG has proven its business model that the SP will reflect that potential.
