However, I would suggest that a socialist govt is at the other end of the spectrum from a fascist one, so a better comparo is probably Germany today.

It seems to me that the LNP is intent, at a state and commonwealth level, to be first to introduce draconian penalties on people who don't tow the party line, than Labor do. I could be wrong, and while I detest both parties for their interference in our right to be imperfect, my scorecard shows the LNP lead the race to control our lives with legislation, even down to what we can see on the internet.

Just an aside. You're referring to Godwin's Law.

In December 2015, Godwin commented on the Nazi and fascist comparisons being made by several articles about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, saying: "If you're thoughtful about it and show some real awareness of history, go ahead and refer to Hitler when you talk about Trump, or any other politician."
In October 2018, Godwin said on Twitter that it is acceptable to call Brazilian politician (now President) Jair Bolsonaro a "Nazi".
