Sydney AUSTRALIA 01 August 2007: Ventracor (ASX: VCR) today announced receipt of Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approval to sell the company’s VentrAssist™ left ventricular assist device (LVAD) in Australia.
TGA approval means the VentrAssist is included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) and Australian hospitals can purchase the device.
VentrAssist has been previously available in Australia under the Special Access Scheme (SAS) and for advanced heart failure patients participating in clinical trials.
Ventracor Chief Executive Officer Peter Crosby said: “TGA approval is achievement of another major milestone by the team at Ventracor towards the creation of a global business.
“We are proud to be the only implantable LVAD approved by the TGA, and it is quite fitting that it is an Australian invention,” Mr Crosby said.
TGA approval follows a successful review by the TGA’s Medical Device Evaluation Committee, who undertook an extensive evaluation of Ventracor’s quality systems, manufacturing controls and clinical trial results.
It follows the start to Ventracor’s Bridge-To-Transplant (BTT) Pivotal clinical trial in the United States in June.
