Depends on the test used. If its a mouth swab test it will normally return a positive if taken within about 8 -10 hrs of use. A urine test could return a positive within a few days or week or more but is dependent upon too many factors to go onto here. The reality is that they do have a threshold level below which the test is considered negative.
