The Germans already have one of the most generous if not the most generous feed in tariffs for solar in the world. Perhaps they can afford to because the amount of sunshine they receive is really not that much. I have no doubt renewables have their part to play in the future (I have solar on my roof and am very happy with its performance) but I don't believe it will be the silver bullet people once thought it was going to be. Renewables will always be part of the mix but ONLY a part. I think gas has to be that gap filler between what we have now, current nuclear technology, hydro, dirty coal and the energy source of the future, maybe fusion and that's at least 50 years away.

I read Money Morning with interest everyday as well; some articles very thought provoking, some staright to the trash can.

Does anyone know Germany's coal resources? I'm assuming they have some. Are they suitable for underground coal gasification and would they look at developing their own gas independence? And besides Putin will just keep voting himself in and his only strategy is to sell oil and gas.

    Cheers
    GLB
