I think that's probably correct ------------- but, overlaid on that is the fact that they are really just bloody useless

because it's very clear that the government of the day - can actually protect that objective that you stated - indeed, probably enhance their chances - if they took the ball up to the game and fronted the oppositon and said -

look, this is bigger than us - and, it's bigger than you too - we need to come together here and work this as a nation - take this out of the political arena and it would be the best for the country

    now -

    could the opposition refuse?

No - if they did - they would be devastated

what would happen if both parties did get together - forge a bipartisan agreement to hand this over to a non political entity ?

what would happen if the agreement was drawn up correctly - with the right and good objectives and scope is that - you could work it that you were not in a race to the bottom --------- get away from the election speak bullshit of - 'oh, we will cut this, cut that, and do more with less' -- which is what they have done for as long as I can remember and all we have got is total shita
we do actually need a reset - and, it's just not possible to do that in the political field in Oz ------------- Ozzies just will not wear change - they live in fear always of 'the other mob' -

We do not know how we will come out of this Covid thingy economically - but, we can be pretty certain of some things the future holds -

and, Covid - to me - gave us the opportunity - the golden chance of standing up and saying -

look - this is different - we really need to do something big here

Covid gave them all in Canberra the excuse ----------- look, we have a crisis -

    we need change

Covid covers all their past sins - it's Covid's fault - lets do something different

but, - they have merely just gone on - same old same old shit - not even the slightest glimmer of the smallest spark of hope that ------------ 'gosh, this just might work' 'gosh, it's a big move, but, we do need something and maybe, just maybe this is it'

nope - same old crap -------- displace older people, bring in young people - into areas and jobs that won't exist in 20 years anyway

oh, and give pensioners 250 bucks - that'll shut em up

it's really a massive FAIL ------------- it's not the budget you see that is the massive FAIL -

it's what they haven't done - it's the monster opportunity laid at the feet of Australia 'again' -

and, Canberra just hasn't even looked down to see the ball on the ground screaming to be kicked
