It's in nobody's interests to kill the mine and the parties will be well aware of this, even if you are not (with your scare tactics).
If you have underprivileged people living in the vicinity, all the more reason to seek concessions for them in the form of revenue, and commitments in terms of employment policies, social commitments including infrastructure and environmental remediation and controls etc from the mining company.
If not, the community groups have nothing, and will need to start again if and when a new mine owner comes along prepared to negotiate.
Killing off the mine is a zero sum game, as the rebels in Bougainville discovered. That was badly handled from the beginning with the importation of employees from PNG and Australia and it didn't get any better with clashes between various tribal groups and the infiltration of criminal groups into rebel gangs. South Africa is a long way from Bougainville, literally and metaphorically.
