I expect change will be forced on Australia in coming decades.
Currently there is an unsustainable level of idle slothfulness. People are getting $60/hr to wait for autistic children at the movies, building labourers on $150,000/year, roadworks swamped in lollypop men, legions of useless public servants "working from home", millions on disability pensions or similar.... etc
When the price of iron ore returns to $40/ton and commodity prices react to slowing growth we will realise the problem with making nothing ourselves.
South American countries were as wealthy as Australia in 1900, we may soon be as wealthy as them.
Necessity will drive change.
