Nick, the sad part for some of us is that whole period and its music could be put in a blender and whizzed on high for 5 minutes and what comes out is a grey mass of blandness. Music lost its way and was replaced by digital machines that provided consistency of noise that was overlayed with the occasional human voice and also video took precedence over human musical ability.
It also had a bit of a FU element and the ugliness that came with it with all the grung, punk, thrash, hip-hop, mimmicks, rockabilly, rave etc.
So sad but good to see we came through the era and the younger generations have turned their backs on it and used the older style and for the most part come forth into a better more atoned world of music again.
Not denying there are many that liked this era of music but it certainly polarised a couple of generations and denied many from any interest in music in its purest form.
