The Aboriginals never owned the land but were a part of it. Individually owning land is a western idea which modern Aboriginals have adopted as a way of gaining compensation. Hence the expansion of customary rights in our modern legal system after Mabo. It seems even song lines, cultural trees, stone ships are all scared items that need to be paid for or shall I say managed by the originals custodians. As long as the money flows the more stuff will keep cropping up.
