choice to recover and then apply themselves to
change their internal dialogue, takes intellect, courage
and determination.

To simply state that people are traumatised and
will not recover is simplistic and lacks insight.

They come to live with it, but the pain doesn't go away, even though they had a second child, it's not the same. It is an emotional thing I guess.
