1 August, landowners start action to shut down the Papua LNG project. Kua steps in and says it’s “teething issues” and the situation is resolved. Long story short, it’s another case of the oil company and PNG paying the representative of the rightful landowners and then this representative keeping all the compensation (and giving it to his wantok) and not handing it around to everyone that actually deserves it. The people who are meant to have got some of the compensation get upset and take action. Very common problem in PNG.

The Deputy PM and Attorney-General has also said that KPHL should have their books opened up to the Public Accounts Committee.
