If some parts of the world seem to be measuring higher water while Aus, a large stable land mass isn't, I would be tempted to look for more local explanations than "the sky is falling!!!!" Australia is is the central part (or the rock) of Gondwanaland. Those bits that separated are, by definition, less stable than us. As the earth giveth, the earth takes away.
