    That first point above is absolutely wrong and in multiple ways. Our teaching workforce has long been recruiting from older section of the workforce, some of whom have transitioned from careers in other professions or high skill areas. Nor do students who achieve outstanding academic results necessarily make great teachers!

    The second point is even more wrong - according to the latest international testing and relative to other developed nations, our students are close to the top for literacy and about midway for numeracy. Bottom rungs go to the US and the UK although relatively poor mid-school results are compensated for a little by the outstanding research achievements of some of the universities.

    The third point is grossly delusional as demonstrated by Howard's archaic view of history. His main interest was in ramming an old style, sanitised extreme right-wing interpretation of history down innocent kids throats. It was pathetic, insulting an therefore lost due to ridicule.
