    mass starvation in the 1970s was averted thanks to the Green Revolution and this was due to an intensified world-wide scientific effort that combined plant breeding, pesticides AND fertilisers

    if the need arises plant breeding (gm or conventional) could re-revolutionalise agriculture and feed the world
