This issue is not about civil rights but about public health. Protecting people against their own poor judgement is an important principle of public health, eg. seat belts, limits on alcohol consumption and driving, addictive prescription drugs on S4/8 restrictions etc.

According to the Cancer Council 24,000 people die every year from smoking related illness. On average that is 65 people a day.

I do not see 65 people a day dying from COVID.

Cigarettes and tobacco products are still sold.

Why are governments not applying the same stringent public health concerns to smoking as they are to COVID?

I am not saying COVID does not exist. I am not saying it is not bad and that it does not have the potential to kill people but where is the consistency?
