Some good thoughts there, and I have wondered the same thing - I'm sure many have. You can print more money or you can dig more gold.

The bit is that digging gold takes more effort than printing money. But you point out that that ain't necessarily a good thing; it may just lead to more environmental destruction and misuse/waste of resources.

It would be the mid 1800s all over again in Australia. Ummm, except that this time I can't see 'us' chasing the Chinese out of the Buckland Valley (Victoria).

I think that investing in gold takes faith, just like fiat currencies.
