Australia damaged reputations that took ages to rebuild
The Australian - Page Online : 3 July 2023
Original article by Simon WildeRoy Morgan Summary
Justin Langer took over as coach of the Australian men's cricket team in 2018 in the aftermath of the 'sandpapergate' scandal in South Africa, and he said at the time that it takes a long time to "build a reputation, but only one act to smash it down". The current Australian men's cricket team has arguably done just that by virtue of their controversial dismissal of English player Jonny Bairstow on the last day of the second Ashes test at Lords on Sunday. Langer was removed from his role in 2022 in what was widely considered to be a "player putsch", and the actions of the Australian team on Sunday suggest they think they do not require anyone's guidance.
