Me, i can work out the numbers, but i'm hopeless at determining if its a good business or not, so, i play it safe by trying to get in early, maybe trading in and out of the "runs", and usually getting out completely on the announcement. Then, i may come back when the market has assessed it (like PML), but usually, i move on. I miss a few gains, but lower the risk (RAD and CVE spring to mind).........you need to know your stuff to assess the deal........i'm happier as a grave digger.
Pretty much about MC....if your shell springs a deal without a run up, then you can expect to get some mileage from it if its a good deal...........whereas something like say.....SRT, has a lot of hype built into it, so the risk is higher on the deal..............not bagging SRT at all, but it has $20M of froth in its price, so will need a knock out deal to impress the market.
Assess your own ability, and use that to determine how to peg your level of risk............sounds like you've been accumulating quietly !

I am also holding some mining stocks that are going through the shell process, so I can watch firsthand how that proceeds. BUR, PLP spring to mind and hopefully get some of my investment back from these reverse 10-baggers.
