West african gold production is booming. Pretty sure this growth in gold production is greater than china's.
Begs the question why investors were shying away from this region in the last 18months.
Political risk? yeah right....I'll take a few skirmishes every couple of years over the ham-fisted taxation regime and red tape jungle that exists in Australia.

West African Gold Output Rose 9.3% In 2011 – MEG

Gold production in West Africa rose 9.3% in 2011 from 2010 levels, says Metal Economics Group. Ghana holds the crown as the largest gold-producing country, with 47% of the region’s total 2011 production. Seventy percent of West Africa’s gold resources are contained in producing mines. Mines undergoing expansion accounted for an additional 11%. Reserves development-stage projects hold 15%, feasibility-stage projects hold 10%, and preproduction-stage projects contain 5% of the total, MEG says.
