Queensland Gas Company Ltd has made a takeover offer worth about $800 million to smaller rival Sunshine Gas Ltd, a source with knowledge of the deal said.
"It is a cash and scrip offer," said the source, who declined to be identified because of commercial sensitivities.
Earlier, QGC entered a trading halt, pending an announcement concerning a takeover offer.
"QGC is currently in confidential, partly complete, negotiations with another entity which will lead to an announcement shortly concerning a proposed agreed takeover offer," the company said.
