As you correctly point out ... the ASX has been developing full trading functionality of Options as the next step on from CLICK system introduced in 1997.
I currently trade warrants (traded eto's in a past life) as the development of the my 'buffalo cruncher' relies on 'live price (underlying) and vol feed' as inputs ... as is the ability to trade 'depth' and online STP processing.
My model is working successfully already and I am practising my skills in anticipation of ASX ann as to details of new format ... the incorporation of 'straddles' etc are just organic extensions of the theme ...
