We all know that Trump can't move forces out of the north east if the US is ever going to entice another small armed force to side with it over the next 100 years of so. If he does move US forces out the SDF would IMHO disintegrate unless some sort of local government autonomy deal is done. Regardless of whether you consider Assad to be legitimate or illegitimate he and his flunky advisers are idiots. All or nothing stances don't work with the Kurds.

ISIS, al-qaeda and Netanyahu used to think Assad and his advisers were idiots too, they don't think that anymore.
