Institutions mark their book live, and make a decision on whether to buy and sell a particular share on the likelihood that particular share will go up or down. They take absolutely no consideration if its a trading loss.
To think of it another way, if they booked a loss they are only interested in owning the every best share that will recover the loss and highly unlikely they will consider the cause of the loss to be the best share. They like to back winners.
