Another odd connection with Europes' flirtation with Fascism, Edward (the abdicator) had a strong affiliation with the Nazis, so much so that after the war Anthony Blunt was sent to Berlin to secure possession of all documents between the British Royal ex King and Hitler; they are interred at Whitehall not to be opened for 100 years.

....the deputies and senators of the 'Vichy Government' of Nazi occupied France met (called to meet under Marshal Petains' armed guard) to vote to hand over all French constitutional rights to Marshal Petain who was to command the State of France (a territory of the Third Reich).
Vote was 569 for, 80 against with 17 abstentions.
Total vote = 666
