"The Medact report envisions three possible outcomes to a U.S.
military intervention in Iraq. The first and best-case scenario would be a
quick collapse of Saddam Hussein's central government. This would likely
still spark a brief, but bloody, civil war between Iraq's many divisive
factions.

The second possibility, and believed to be the most probable, would be a
protracted U.S. military air campaign culminating in Mr. Saddam's elite
Republican Guard regiment fighting in the streets of Baghdad.

The third option considered by the Medact researchers was an open-ended
regional Armageddon, which even included the possibility of Israeli nuclear
