I did 21 years in the Army and worked with a few different countries forces and I can say that the US has some very good soldiers.
Soldiers from the Draft days may not have been so good but it is different with volunteer armies.
As a general rule they are probably not as well trained and drilled as Australian soldiers but they rely a lot on technology of which they have a lot. Australia does not have the same level of technology or air support etc so we must rely more heavily on each soldiers training. The motto was one shot one kill when the Australian army had SLR's.

My son - army brat - tells me 250 000 rounds of ammo used by US soldiers to kill one enemy soldier (snipers not included - closer to one on one). Those figures are NOT flattering.
