Howdy Kevq
I'm off the stock market, children have gone for the week(share parenting),I've finished brushcutting for today and some time to kill.
Lol...I'll give you all the QLD experience that I can recall, all post '75(memorabilia is boxed up).
I'm not sure your mate(razor band) would know the 7 hills band,it had one of those esoteric names 'mother do you know your attic has....etc',but he might know some of the other bands/musos I had worked in/with.
Had a band at the Miami hotel(Gold coast)for a year.It was the first time they had tried live music.First 4 nights then fell back to Fri/Sat.Just fanatastic.Full of the surfing/uni crowd.First band was called 'dicky Doo and the Dont's'(pinched).
Revival rock n roll band.
Drummer had been a roady/drummer for thunderclap newman, guitarist was a guy called mick liber (ex ashton, gardner n dyke)and bass player was 'yuk' out of max merritt and meteors. The lineup and style eventually changed.
Hacienda,Fortitude Valley,was also fun(top bar,lol),had a gig there for 12 months,6 nights a week.Occasionally did spots at 'jet club' after Hacienda.
Good band this one Kevq,yr mate might know some of the musos who were brisbane boys(I'm a Vic mallee boy).
Bass-barry sullivan(ex chain,renee geyer,etc)
guitar-keith'stretch'kerwin.
drums-'geronimo'(frank from cairns).
Me- Dr Sax.
Next was(i think) 'Blues Express'.We played on the Carlton pub circuit(covers),6 weeks here ,6 weeks there.Spent a year at 'Caesars Palace' Toowoomba,as residence band. Also used to work 'penthouse club'(gc).Blinkers club night in city. This band also did backing/travelling with acts that came to QLD.Platters,Drifters and Inkspots.
Last group I joined in Brisbane was a NZ band called 'Collision'-played lots of 'Commodores','Tower of Power' etc,had a residency at the 'top of the state' night club.
Toured all over QLD,from the 'Playroom'(gc) to the 'Oriental' at mackay. The band truck crashed at Mt Larkin (out of Rocky) and I decided time to get a *real* job!
Best singer in any band I was in up north was a guy called Larry Cozier(close spelling!).Sang Al Jarreau and George Benson almost better than they did!
Cheers
FWP(dr sax).
