I did not state I trust the government to fix the problem by way of providing more public housing for s start they are to far behind now in available public housing to catch up in any meaningful time frame.
If you took the time to READ what i posted you would have realised that I have already agreed that the manner in which public housing has been provided in the past has created huge social problems.
But I certainly do not trust private enterprise and investors to fix the problem either, simply on the basis that a proper return on investment and providing low cost housing contridict each other.
The only viable option would appear to be a co-operation between governments providing subsidies in some form to private investors to invest in the provision of low cost housing.
Schemes similar to the one the Rudd governemtn has already announced and something similar as you have already mentioned to the DHA scheme.
