A mate gave me some Kamato seed this year which have grown well. I was surprised how sweet and tasty they were. They seem to have similar characteristics to that of the Black Russian variety.
I did google them, and one site said they were a cross breed and a patented variety, then another site said that this was untrue and were simply a South American variety introduced to Europe. They apparently have a higher fructose content.
I do have a few of the Black Cherry variety growing which also produces a sweet fruit.
I am currently doing an experiment by using sulphate of potash on a couple of my plants to determine if it will return a better flavour to the fruit. I'm unsure if it works but will give it a try.
