    It’s a considerably high number, especially when considering how important rare earths are for modern technologies.


    In the early 2010s, China halted exports of rare earths to Japan for two months over a fishing dispute. This caused Japan to look elsewhere and since then, secured contracts with Lynas Rare Earths.


    Americans are increasingly concerned about similar vulnerabilities, not just with rare earth elements, but also with semiconductors, especially if China were to gain control of Taiwan.

    Such a development would put TSMC, the world’s most powerful chipmaker, under Chinese control, granting them access to the most advanced semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.

    This would give China considerable leverage over the supply chain. Its most likely why Trump is attempting to bring manufacturing back to the USA.
