These months of interminable rain have written off many dozens of trees and shrubs in and around my garden, some of which are irreplaceable, all of which won't be replaced because I don't have the energy for it. The irreplaceable ones have come from old gardens.
I'll be up against it finding the energy to burn it all on top of my annual burn offs.
But thems the breaks. I don't know how businesses and homeowners who have suffered flood damage in the multiple locations cope with it, especially the older people.
At least there are more resources & help provided by govt agencies now than was the case 50 years or more ago. And financial help. But the sheer dislocation and refurbishment is so time and energy consuming. And this time there will surely be the need for relocation of building sites in towns. I know of places where recently developed & sold building blocks were a metre or more under water before any building had even started.
It will be a long & slow recovery.
