    Now that's complete fantasy.

    'Vogtle Unit 3, the first newly-constructed nuclear unit in the U.S. in over 30 years, entered commercial operation on July 31, 2023, after years of delays and projected costs of around $35 billion'

    'It only seems like Unit 3 was started that long ago. In reality, Unit 3 went online just shy of 17 years after the initial permit for its construction was filed, and a decade after construction began. (Unit 4 may join it in sending electricity to the grid within months.)'

    So 17 years to build on the same site that 2 other reactors already existed, in a country with a pre-existing nuclear industry. That's 17 years from issuing the permit. Add another 5+ years for legislation, consultation, indigenous agreement, EPA, State approval etc etc.

    That's $35bn USD or $53bn AUD by the way!
