Even for the 'old timers' investing in 1964 and still active it would have been virtually impossible to replicate a total equity index return of that magnitude seeing as index funds were not available to the average punter until the mid 70's and even then were not taken up by the 'public' in great numbers until quite a bit later.

Stupid comparison but we've seen plenty of them before to fit the well known mindless narrative.

Not to mention that the indices are upwardly biased by design. Failing companies get dropped from the index, rising companies get added.
