re: bird flu skeptics
quite a reasonable argument sabre, there are many other diseases I would love to see funded; unfortunately the political will is only there for problems that may affect people in wealthy countries. However, an avian pandemic would affect the whole world and shatter the world economy to such an extent that the diseases of the third world (malaria, tb etc) would then have practically zero funding. Take the money away from pandemic preparedness and where would it go? It would go to political vote winning and not on TB, malaria etc.
