how many special benefits have been gifted to boost fertility in Aus over the last 70 years?
Costello's generous deal coupled with his patriotic "have one for the nation" didn't make much difference.
I dislike the suggestion of a 10% tax cut instead of giving parents money and the benefits. as it means the wealthy will get a disproportionate, far greater benefit than the poor. surely each child should be valued at the same amount rather than increasing wealth disparity.
I would suggest instead free child care and education to year 6, child care and school materials could be tax rebatable. no cash in hand by tax cuts.
