Yep, the kid was at hospital, but the direct corelation between the "Noticable" bad wheezing, and the cardiac arrest show us that the childs wheezing, and attack, had got to a dangerous level, resulting in death. The wheezometer could have picked up the wheeze and the need for medical attention way before the wheeze became audible and apparent to others in the classroom.

Its a whole education process that needs to be applied. The child would have felt the discomfort way before it got to the stage of being audible to others. Therefore the education of children with this condition, and persons within settings that are looking after children that may have this condition.

If the child had of felt discomfort, and so often happens with kids, "DONT BE EMBARRASSED!!!" Put your hand up in the classroom and ask to be checked either in the imfirmary if applicable, or by a registered teacher familier with the wheezometer and its use.

If the wheezometer was available in schools, and it was mandatory equipment, both teachers, and students would be educated to the point of, "Its not embarrasing" if you feel you need to have your wheeze count checked. And if a wheezometer was used early enough, in this case, before it became noticable, and audible to others, the decision to get the child to hospital may have come at a much earlier stage, where treatment could have more than likely have stopped the child from going into cardiac arrest.

As with many conditions, early intervention is quite often the key to a succesful outcome...Maybe asthmasense, ISONEA, and the wheezometer, if schools, and sporting facilities, and others, openly mandated the product and its uses, could be used for early intervention. Kids are often embarrassed by conditions such as ASTHMA because they feel that their peers view them as being weak, and with ISONEA, and the products being mandatory in schools, with education for peer groups, some of this so called embarrasment may lead to early testing, intervention, and hospitalisation, before critical time.

So product, peer group education, and getting rid of any stigma that asthmatics may face in schools, would and could save lives. Lets hope that this product range gains acceptance, and that asthma foundations around the world get behind it...
