There is an obvious alternative: Get out of the NSC car and get on the NSCG train. You avoid the chance of a crash but if the share price goes up you will end up in about the same place in Mar 2020 because they can be converted into NSC then. Also if Shorten is PM then happier getting interest on the NSCG instead of franked dividends on the NSC.
